Client Testimonials provided about Fortview House Bed & Breakfast

“I would like to acknowledge Catherine Smith of Fortview House B&B in Co Cavan and how pleasurable she made our stay while visiting Co. Cavan recently. Catherine went way above and beyond the call of duty in accommodating my husband and i on our visit to Ireland. Immediately upon our arrival Catherine put us on the right path as to where we needed to begin our search: the heritage centre at the library, the office of records of births, marriages and deaths and lastly the Cathedral’s business office. Not only did she provide us with hot tea and dessert each evening we were there, but she was an immeasurable help assisting us in locating information about my husbands great grandparents. Catherine even went as far as to put us in touch with a gentlemen who took us to my husbands family homestead prior to their departure to the United States. It was through Catherine’s efforts that we made contact with very likely a cousin and we were able to access church records to gain even more information about my husbands ancestors. Catherine and her husband made us feel very much at home and were truly delightful hosts and ambassadors for Ireland. Without a doubt, any future trips to Ireland will find us visiting Fortview House once again and for sure, we will encourage any friends and family contemplating a visit to spend time with Catherine at Fortview House. Thank you Catherine!”

“Seeing the wonder in the children’s eyes as we pulled up to the Fortview House – a fantastic B+B in Cavan that’s also a working farm – made us realize we were all in for a holiday to remember. We warmed ourselves by a turf fire as our hosts made us comfortable. Meals were healthy, with garden-grown vegetables and fresh dairy from the farm, served whenever we liked. The kids hiked, rode bikes, and we all boated on a lovely lake. There was even a pub in walking distance for the two of us when the kids were settled for the night. All in all, it was the best of holidays, and we’d go back again!”

“Hi Catherine,
First may I thank you and your husband for the hospitality and kindness shown in my short stay with you.The work you done finding a living relation for me was quite mind blowing and was so unexpected even now I find it hard to take in. When I told my family they were all over the moon and even my grand daughter who is ten wants to write to her as Sissy is there oldest living relative.

I spent nearly three hours with Sissy who’s real name is Mary Kathleen and found out so much information. What a woman ,it’s a pity I never met her 6 year ago when I was in Redhill. If only I had met a B&B lady like you who puts so much effort into running the business.
I told Sissy that yourself and Sean hope to visit and she said she would enjoy that.
Once again I can’t thank you and Sean enough for the help you gave me. You are Angles.
God bless you all, may we meet again”

“Catherine and Sean warmly welcomed us into their home. My sisters and I had made the trip to Ireland to get to know the country of our ancestors. My grandmother had been born close to Fortview House and soon after we had made our reservations, Catherine started making enquries in the area on our behalf. She arranged for a local gentleman who had known one of our distant relatives to take us to the area where our ancestors had lived. We were also able to meet others in the area who were able to give us information about family members who were now deceased. Catherine went well beyond the call of duty to make our stay rewarding and memorable. We left feeling like we had gained new family in Catherine, Sean and their son.”

“I stayed here for a month what a difference, as someone who spends a lot time working in Ireland spending that time in hotels and B&Bs the welcome here at Fortview House is something uniquely special, from the moment you meet Catherine you feel part part of the family and as part of the family you know Catherine will do everything to make your stay as enjoyable as she can.I will and do recommend any one,who wants to stay in the North West Ireland,to stay here.”

“We found Fortview House a wonderful place to stay and good value. Our room was large, quiet and comfortable, and the meals were very good indeed. But what stays in our mind is the kindness and efficiency of the co-owner Catherine Smith. We were in Ireland to find family and she located 3 members for us before we arrived and even arranged a surprise visit by one of them to Fortview House where she set us up for the evening in their private sitting room complete with a lavish supper free of charge. We had two problems with accommodation elsewhere and with the bank and she sent us off for the day and had solved both problems for us by our return.Where else would you find such kindness? We thoroughly recommend both Fortview House and its owners. “

“When we arrived we were shown our room which was as good as we ever had in a hotel. Tea and homemade scones was served in the lounge and a breakfast menu was given to us to fill in, we were then drove to the hotel where the wedding reception was taken place in Cavan town and dropped off at the door . The following morning breakfast was served at 10am which was ideal as we had a late night, and as we had ordered in advance it was ready when we sat down. Catherine told us we could have our room until 12 so we had a walk around the farm after breakfast. What a service for 70 Euro all in, and what a wonder full couple. We have another wedding in September in Cavan and we booked Fortview House again and will tell all our friends.Thank you Catherine & Sean.”

“The innkeeper Catherine (Kitsy) Smith bent over backwards to help us find the few remaining ancestors in the area. Her hospitality and willingness to go the extra mile was unmatched. This area of Ireland is remote, untouristy and scenic beyond belief. Sean and Kitsy made us feel like family, not just visitors. We were wildly successful in finding family and through her suggestion to visit the Ulster Folk Park in Omagh, we were able to find our ancestors on their ship manifest and other pertinent immigration information on them. I would like to return someday and do some hiking and relaxing in the area. We will never forget our time with the Smiths.”
